
Network Standards
One of the key objectives of the Network is to set standards in NE London, based on the national standards, and to ensure that patients receive equity of care across the sector. The standards by which the TB services of North East London is measured by are set out below.
Network Standards
- PCT to have a strategy for TB control
- Suspected pulmonary TB cases to be seen by TB service with 2 weeks of presentation to primary care
- PCT to commission TB services to agreed Network standards
- TB included in all LDP's and Public Health Reports
- PCT to have a named individual responsible for TB
- Each TB service and PCT has a strategy for capturing patient feedback
- PCT to show evidence of partnership working through loacl TB group (membership to include Local Authority, PCT and Trust, group remit and function to be included in strategy. Where appropriate this may be a cluster group)
- Neonatal BCG coverage of 90% where universal policy is implemented
- Occupational health screening to NICE guidelines
- New entrant screening to NICE guidelines
- 1 negative pressure room to every 40 notifications
- Smear microscopy universally available within 24 hours
London Standards
- Standard 1: Achieve as a minimum 70% coverage by 4 months, and 75% by 12 months in boroughs with universal BCG, aspiring to 80% and 90% respectively.
- Standard 2: Each patient who is suspected by a health professional to have pulmonary TB is seen in a specialist TB service within 2 weeks of first contact with the NHS
- Standard 3: All samples should be processed using liquid culture technology
- Standard 4: All results on sputum smears should be available within 1 working day of the sample reaching the laboratory
- Standard 5: A standardized risk assessment is carried out on each patient to identify those at risk of not completing their treatment
- Standard 6: Achieve as a minimum 85% treatment completion (national target) building towards 90%
- Standard 7: All defined contacts of TB should be identified using a standardised risk assessment
- Standard 8: There should be a year-on-year reduction in the incidence of TB among NHS staff
- Standard 9: There should be a minimum of 1 nurse for every 40 TB notifications
