About Us
The NE London TB Network is committed to reducing the incidence of tuberculosis and ensuring that care for patients is up-to-date and of the highest standard.
The East London Tuberculosis Service was founded in 1993 in an attempt to improve the care of patients with tuberculosis within the three high incidence boroughs of Hackney, Newham and Tower Hamlets. This formed the core of the North East London TB Network, which was brought into existence in 2000, following the creation of five sectors across the health service for administrative purposes in London.
The Network includes TB physicians and nurses, microbiologists, pathologists, public health consultants and infection control staff, paediatricians, HIV specialists, psychiatrists and those involved with alcohol and drug addiction, GPs and community nursing teams and the Mobile X-ray Unit. It has forged links with local authorities, especially in the areas of housing and social benefits. It also has links with non-governmental organizations relevant to the populations with tuberculosis such as the Refugee Council (asylum seekers), Salvation Army (homeless and alcohol addiction) and various charities offering hostel accommodation.
